Happy Pride!

I will be celebrating Pride this month. Thankfully, I get paid that week!

I just wanted to write a quick post about Pride. You can find the history of Pride in other places. I recommend the You’re Wrong About episode about the Stonewall Uprising in particular. In fact, it is such a good podcast episode, I think it deserves an award of some kind, but I don’t know who gives out awards for five year old podcast episodes.

Personally and honestly, I’m not a big Pride parade person. As a concept, I love it. I love that people come out to celebrate their authentic selves. And I know that people love to feel like they’re part of a community, and celebrations like this help people feel that way.

Unfortunately, I get tired easily and I am neutral about parades. The thing is, I’m not super butch and except for my short hair maybe, I could pass as straight, which is just to say, I don’t feel like I can’t be authentic on the daily. This doesn’t discount the importance of these celebrations, I just have a hard time with going to Pride.

However, I will be going to Pride celebrations this month anyway. This may or may not be about someone I’m interested in being interested in the parade, so to the parade I go.

Even though I dressed up as a rainbow for Halloween when I was 18, I’m not much of a rainbow person these days. My typical outfit is army green leggings and a black t-shirt with cut off sleeves. For Pride, I will be wearing something colorful because I’m proud to be a part of this community.
